Overview: Founded in 1980, Inter Aide is a French non-profit organization specialized in development programs for particularly disadvantaged families. These programs are set up in isolated rural areas, combining high intensity of need and high population density, where the presence of NGOs is weak and the context is sufficiently stable to develop actions geared towards the long-term autonomy of populations.
Inter Aide's fields of action are improving access to water, hygiene and sanitation, supporting family farming, community health and education.
The program: Inter Aide launched a community health program in 2014 to improve children's health outcomes. Its objectives include increasing early diagnosis and treatment of sick children, promoting
prevention behaviours, and enhancing reproductive health services usage. The program focuses on rural health centre catchment areas, combining sensitization activities with health care delivery support at the centre and village levels.
In 2025, the project plans to start building a maternity unit in Gumba (Mchinji) to enable almost 1,000 women to give birth in good conditions and close to their village. The new maternity unit will meet the needs of the Chimwankago, Fanuel and Gumba communities, who live in areas far from the Mkanda maternity unit and who sometimes do not have access to maternity facilities during the rainy season.
Internal Construction procedure:
Inter Aide adheres to a structured internal construction procedure that entails that:
- Inter Aide engages a contractor for constructing building projects.
- The contractor provides a detailed list of items and their quantities needed for the work/ bill of quantities (BOQ),
- Inter Aide procures all the necessary supplies based on the BOQ from suppliers, selected by Inter Aide, taking both prices and quality is taken into consideration.
- The purchased materials are subsequently delivered to the site for the contractor’s use, thereby facilitating the progression of the project.
