The AUDA-NEPAD assisting African
Member states to achieve this ambitious goal, AFR100 partners
(AUDA-NEPAD, WRI & Fledge), launched an accelerator program called The Land
Accelerator Africa program. The Land Accelerator is an accelerator program
and curated network for entrepreneurs who restore degraded forests and
farmland. This innovative program offers a combination of mentorship,
technical training, and networking opportunities, aiming to empower
entrepreneurs to effectively tackle land degradation while promoting
sustainable and profitable agricultural practices. The Land Accelerator
currently operates on a cohort-based model with two phases:
-
Phase One is three months of
weekly training meetings with integrated mentorship and deliverable
creation.
-
Phase two is anchored by an
intensive week-long workshop where the cohort meets in person,
culminating in an Impact Day were the companies present to the public
and investors.
Participants leave the program ready
to connect with potential investors so that they can take their business to
the next stage of growth. The program has attracted nearly 3,000 applicants
in Africa, and its 196 alumni from 34 countries have self-reported that they
have created 9,048 jobs, worked with 249,496 farmers and restored 201,076
hectares.
The Top 100 Land Restoration
Entrepreneurs/Enterprises will receive USD $5,000 Innovation Grants from
SIDA and AUDA-NEPAD to empower women and youth restoration entrepreneurs in
the continent. These
actions enable
AFR100 stakeholders and partners to provide targeted support to achieve the
goals of FLR in Africa and raise the continent’s profile in
contributing to the achievement of the Bonn Challenge,
the African Union Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
